MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Thanks to the generosity of WSFA 12 News viewers and the River Region community, more than $277,000 was donated during the Day of Dreams telethon Tuesday!

The total as of 6:37 p.m. Tuesday was $277,571! A complete total will be available Wednesday.

Tuesday’s telethon raised funds for Montgomery’s Mercy House ministry, MAP and the MAP Center.

Volunteers were on hand all day to take donations over the phone. Donations can still be made online at www.mercyhousemgm.org/telethon.

MAP, which stands for Ministry About People, has been serving the people of Montgomery through community programs since 2004, providing meals, clothing, shelter, job training, family services and hope to thousands in our community.

New Walk of Life Church Pastor Ken Austin founded Mercy House in a small home off Day Street in West Montgomery. Mercy House is a daytime shelter for the homeless but also a stopping point for young people in the neighborhood and a place to get a warm meal and clothing.

In January, WSFA 12 News officially donated its former East Delano Avenue building to Mercy House to turn into the MAP Center. The center is used for educational and career training opportunities.
