Tracking a major chill down for the weekend

Showers and storms are pushing out of Alabama, in its wake will be colder and drier air for the weekend.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - The first cold front we were tracking brought showers and storms into the state of Alabama for Veterans Day. The second cold front does not look to bring rain but will bring cold temperatures to the area this weekend.

We will be in between the two cold fronts on Friday. Dense fog will be an issue during the morning commute but will give way to sunshine by the afternoon. Afternoon highs will top out around 70 degrees with northwest winds around 5 to 10 mph.

Our second cold front will move into the region Friday night. Skies will remain clear during its passage with lows in the lower 40s and light winds.

Winds will pick up behind the front on Saturday. While we remain sunny, temperatures will only warm into the upper 50s with breezy conditions. Lows will dip Saturday night into Sunday morning down into the 30s. With many locations hitting freezing for the first time this season.

Sunday will be sunny. Highs will warm back into the lower 60s with lighter winds. Sunday night expect lows in the upper 30s to lower 40s under mostly clear skies.

Monday we will see high pressure settle into the region. Giving us fair weather for the start of the work and school week ahead. Sunny skies will prevail on Monday with highs in the lower 60s. Lows will drop into the upper 30s during the overnight period.

Tuesday will be much the same as Monday. Highs will again top out in the middle 60s with overnight lows in the upper 30s under fair conditions.

Few high level clouds move into the region by Wednesday. A slow warming trend will continue as highs rebound back into the upper 60s to lower 70s. Sunny conditions for Wednesday will remain clear during the overnight. Lows will fall into the upper 40s.

Thursday we will again see partly to mostly sunny skies. Highs will ramp back into the middle 70s. Long range forecast models are hinting at rain late next week, something we will watch closer over the weekend and beyond.
