Montgomery mayor featured in PBS documentary
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed is featured in a newly released documentary film.
Reed can be seen on PBS Roadtrip Nation’s “Being Free,” which is available to a national audience.
The documentary follows three road trippers, who are formerly incarcerated individuals, as they travel the country to see how people overcome societal stigma and obstacles as they seek to reinvent their lives.
“I think the documentary was an awesome opportunity for us to talk about some of the progress that we’re making here in Montgomery,” Reed said.
During their journey through Selma and Montgomery, the trio met Reed, who listened to their stories and explained how the community can come together to bring change to the criminal justice system.
”When they came to Montgomery, they were just struck by the sense of history, all that had happened here, and some of the things that we’re doing and how it represents them,” Reed added. “And I think that’s really important for us to keep in mind anytime we’re making decisions.”
